You worked hard, you deserve it
I loathe the statement, ”You deserve it,” when it is spoken as a generality, specifically to one person, excluding others.
To deserve is to be worthy of, to have merit for.
You worked hard, you deserve it.
This statement, unless it is carefully wrapped in a context, divorces us from the possibility that intrinsic value of all life holds that all of life deserves life and its offerings.
I stand for a civilisation where all humans deserve and get enough quality food, adequate housing, education, health care, age and child care, simply because they are alive.
You worked hard, you deserve it, requires symmetrical application to the people working hard for less than subsistent wages to make stuff to keep the global wealth cycling through the hands of the privileged.
