Walls

“The worst walls are never the ones you find in your way. The worst walls are the ones you put there.” Ursula K. Le Guin

I think about the walls I have built in my life.

Walls to protect that also keep those with no intent to harm out.

Walls that diminish my capacity to connect.

Walls of righteousness and closed heart, mind, being.

Walls that stop me from seeing light on the other side.

I think about the walls people build. Protect assets to the level that no one else gets a shot at anything close to that level of asset.

Walls to keep the ‘others’ out.

Walls to keep the ‘others’ in.

Fear everywhere.

Walls to prevent people with a 65,000-year history from being able to get a simple voice on the nation’s Birth certificate. I have listened to all those saying NO to this happening, and I have not heard a single no that is not loaded with protection, fear, self-regard and righteous indignation — anything that is not love. I have yet to hear a no that is spoken with generosity, love, compassion, and kindness.

My heart breaks from the walls.

I pray walls in all their forms around the world come down.
