Universal basic income

Imagine a civilised society where the commitment is everyone — no exceptions — is granted a universal basic income. Enough to cover the very basics of life. Adequate housing, enough food, quality education and health care.

This statement says — every human has intrinsic value.

It also says — now you can live humbly and with dignity, free of the all-consuming terror of precarity. Show us what you can do.

Imagine the creativity that might be unleashed.

How can we afford this?

Step one, look below the illusion of money and its creation. And secondly, trim the fat from the bloated.

The world doesn’t need billionaires. Most of them run riot with power grabs, crafting monopolies that are in fact the new form of government.

Companies do not need to make profit on profit on profit to feed the frenzy of investors who care less about anything but the profit.

A healthy surplus is enough.

Perhaps we can change our view from investing for survival, to investing for the long-term healthy survival of Earth and all her creatures.

We might call this a Universal Syntropic Income. (HT to Benny Wallington for coining this phrase.)
