To incentivise profit as the god of business is to say yes to the devil of destruction in the same breath

On the altar of profit we worship, cutting costs to show how marvellous we are at being managers.

We speak of the success of the business by pointing to the bottom line.

As if the bottom line, our profit, is the ultimate arbiter of worth, status, reward.

The world that does this is consuming what it means to be human, leaving a desiccated husk of a business, more machine than alive. Scooping out everything that we finally realise is of supreme value when we are gasping for our last breath.

Striping out time to care, to create systems, to support people. To show up for each other. To be considerate, not simply of the now, but of the future that already has its fingers around the necks of our children.

To incentivise profit as the god of business is to say yes to the devil of destruction in the same breath.

People, the earth, our future…the price.

When you are the price, when you are the casualty, when our future emergent is hollowed out, we know the idiocy of this game.

Clutching at the revered bottom line while the boat sinks and the water consumes, we might finally wake up to the very silly, heartbreakingly destructive game designed for a very few winners.

A Syntropic Enterprise is profitable…but not just in the domain of dollars. We measure profit of human relationships, knowledge, wellbeing, skills and experience, generosity…

All for a world with a future for Earth and all her creatures.
