To be wealthy, accumulate all those things that money can’t buy

At some stage in life accumulation of more things begins to feel empty of joy. It dawns on us that happiness doesn’t exist in manufactured matter far removed from animating life.

We walk through our closets and home searching for something that was never there.

One day we might sit under a tree and become aware of the tree. Or marvel at a bird sucking nectar from a flower.

We might feel the sunlight on our cheek and notice its quiet gift.

We might soak our being in the pleasure of a hug.

True wealth is well-being. In our haste to buy things, to live the identity we have agreed to of consumer, we forget the wealth we have. In the forgetting, we debase everything worth life.
