The ultimate question for a businesses worth — the one we are afraid to ask

If this business shut down, would the world, and humanity, be better off?

It is time we started asking this question.

Of our own business. Of the work we do. Of the businesses we invest in.

The question and our sincere willingness to consider it has a whole host of precessional effects.

Potentially 80% of most enterprises are what Bucky Fuller called Obnoxico. Not contributing value to humanity at minimum and potentially entirely entropic — leaving the world worse.

So many businesses are responses to bad, entropic enterprises. Trying to solve the awful consequence of an original and still running business.

Our “Impact” investing is likely to be a ‘feel-good’ moment that would still leave humanity better if the business behind the enterprise didn’t exist.

If we are serious about a world with a future for Earth and all her creatures, we need to be serious about this question and a faithful consideration of our answer.

The truth hurts.

Once we face the truth we can get to the real work. How do we create a world where humans do not need a ‘job’ keeping the machine of profit maximisation for the few at the cost of the Earth and our future? How do we create opportunities for our collective endeavours to be Syntropic?

How do we stop the ridiculous spell we are trapped in, about our value, value, time, money, greenwashing, capitalism, what is needed to keep an economy alive..jobs, jobs, jobs?

Deep breath…

If your business, or the work you do, stopped…would the world and our future be better for it?
