The myth of personal responsibility

When we discover the agency we have to affect change, to no longer be a victim of whatever circumstance we find ourselves in, to know that we have the power to choose how we respond in every moment, it is the ultimate freedom.

At the same time, we must realise that we live in a system designed to do the following. Keep the poor poor. Keep the broken broken. Allow the big corporates to get away with everything, pay little to no tax and dominate the political and media discourse.

The incumbent system wants to make you feel like a failure for not being able to make it up to another financial class. It is important to this system/machine/Moloch that you feel ashamed and helpless. Helplessness serves the interests of Moloch. Keep those with little focused on survival so the rules can continuously be bent more in the favour of Moloch.

When we have a health or economic crisis, Moloch pushes the line of personal responsibility. You need to take responsibility. It is up to you. Be the lone hero. Wear the mask. Get the extra job.

Personal responsibility is one part of the response. It is always a collective crisis.

When the collective starts cohering and acting together, this becomes the most dangerous time for Moloch.

Once we realise that we have agency in how we respond and that our synergistic power comes when we act as a collective towards an increased well-being for Earth and all her creatures, Moloch’s grip on power becomes tenuous.

If we want a world with a future, this is what we must do. Find our agency and act together.
