The Love List

The oppressed, particularly the long-term oppressed. People of colour, less able-bodied, LGBTQ, neuro-diverse.

Untamed Nature.

Nature growing back.

Kindness.

All human decency and respect.

The animals.

Clean water. Clean air. Clean relationships.

Art. Great writing, untainted by AI.

Joy.

Movement.

Generosity.

The rise of independent politicians who are grassroots elected by their constituency and are unencumbered by money in politics.

Riding the wave.

Activists who act for the Love List above.

The Rage List

Bigots. Misogynists. Dominators. Gaslighters.

Monopolies.

Legal codes that serve the powerful.

Tech bros and their ‘we need more masculinity BS’ as they gobble up the world and bend the knee.

Good men with platforms who are still blind to their positions of power, dominating the discourse without inviting or seeking 3/4 of the other voices on the planet to be both at the table and offer experiences that might change their worldview.

Systems and structures that enable the complete destruction of our planet, the erosion of any possibility for poverty and racism to be ended — that see most humans as utilities and all Earth and animals as tools. Capitalism. GDP. Limited Liability Corporations. Democracy in its current guise — owned by big money. Financialisation.

Cruelty.

Corruption.

Deception.

Journalists who have traded journalism for passive stenography.

Rogue states like Israel, the USA, and Russia.

People/leaders/states calling others terrorists while being terrorists.

Any money in politics.

The Israeli lobby.

The absolute overuse to the point of ‘it’s lost all meaning’ of the word anti-semitism.

The religious groups that want to shape everyone else in the image of their religion. This includes Christians and Muslims. No matter what particular brand, fundamentalism is fundamentalism.

The patriarchy and those who want to dominate women’s bodies and women’s choices.

Any lack of integrity. If you make a promise, keep it or renegotiate it, but take responsibility for its delivery or not.

The Love List

It looks shorter, but do not let length take away from the layers and layers of complexity, nuance, beauty and grace woven into every love. And that really is the difference. In a world that goes crazy for sound bites, short fuses, AI stripped of soul and consciousness, and leaders who have an insurmountable wall around depth, vulnerability and intimacy, experiencing the profound richness of human care, Gaia and her exquisite unknowable complexity, artists who have honed their craft over decades, and the glorious diversity of all life, is to become fully human.

Those of us who know this must stay at the frontlines of keeping what it means to be human alive.
