The bully
Has always been my number one enemy.
From as far back as I can remember, a bully picking on a victim incited such rage in me that I would place my body between them.
I did this as a small child, I continue to do this as a small adult.
I have learned the hard way to be less lizard reactionary and more strategic. Though sometimes my reactions are still visceral and hard to control.
For the last week, my viscera, my gut, has been roiling in pain. The news feed, stuffed full of horrid bullies, has every part of my biology in fight mode.
I hate bullies. Hate is a very strong word. In this case, it is a true emotion for me.
Those who prey on anyone weaker than them, revelling in a win-lose game, where they get to gloat the win. I hate them.
All the while, I know that bullies are, with the rare exception of the psychopaths, facsimiles of strength. They require the illusion of strength to give them power. They learn the game of spin, manipulation and obfuscation early. Cruelty is their weapon of choice. But their strength comes from illusion. Behind the mask is nothing but fear that they will be exposed for their lack of courage.
Stories that capture culture, like Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and Game of Thrones, express the same battle. The rebellion against the bully.
We don’t need movies right now.
We are there. The game is real.
Anyone who takes pleasure in oppression, cruelty, hate, bigotry, domination, or superiority…we need to expose these bullies for who they really are.
Husks of humans, missing souls, focused only on themselves and their own accumulation.
I have always been part of the rebellion against bullies. Learning to fight with every weapon I have. Including love.
