The balance between sovereign choice, personal responsibility, consequence and the rights of others

Public health, child care, elder care, basic education (Year 1 to 12) should not be profit-making. The moment we allow profit we incentivise behaviour to put profit above health, care, education.

Pharmaceutical companies should be not-for-profit, fully transparent, open-source.

Political parties should not be allowed any form of private funding. All funding should be on a blockchain in the public domain. Ideally funded by the public purse with a cap of spending. Obscene spending to elect politicians is an incredible waste.

There could be a cap on time spent in political office. It is not a career, rather a public service.

Education should include education on what it means to be a citizen, what it means to consider consequences, how we make sense of the world and its plethora of information, why we have public health initiatives such as non-smoking, speed limits, worker health and safety and vaccination programs.

Allowing sovereign choice is acceptable AND people need to accept the consequences of their choices. You cannot have rights without responsibilities. If you choose to get blind drunk and jump off a fence and break your neck, you take responsibility for that. The responsibility doesn’t rest with a city council or private property owner.

If you choose to speed through a school zone and seriously injure a child, you take responsibility.

If a home, a community, a business or a country has laws in place at the border of that home, community, business or country, you accept those laws or be an active party seeking to change them. But to sit and complain, blame or point the finger without active participation is a game that disintegrates into victimhood.

The balance between sovereign choice, personal responsibility, consequence and the rights of others and society is a constant conversation. Leaving any element out of the conversation skews it down the rabbit hole of care-less-ness and arrogance.
