Symphonies of Universe
Five years ago my love kissed me for the first time.
I call it our kiss anniversary, as after an eight-month friendship runway, it catapulted us within days into a partnership that delights us both.
I love the contours of a relationship. From that addictive heat and ever-present ‘on my mind’ to a more steady reliance and trust.
All relationship have their moments. Ours has been defined by serious but able to be mended health issues. Life and death moments. Times that, in retrospect, feel like a dream, the trauma so real that our minds compartmentalise it to enable us to get to the other side.
After five years, there is both a relaxing and a deepening into each other.
I still practice the small acts that were there in the beginning: the excitement to see Tony when he gets home, the long-form conversations we have together about everything, our interiors, what is disturbing us, how we are feeling, what is emerging, and what keeps us awake at night.
As David Whyte said, the conversation is the relationship. Lose the conversation and you lose the relationship.
To be in relationship requires an enacted commitment to the quality of the relationship itself — the space between us. To keep that space open, transparent, clean and clear. To talk into everything. To never let an unspoken charge carry forward. To listen as if the world depends on your listening.
I like the maturity of our relationship. From the beginnings, as grown-ups who had been through the vicissitudes of life and reconciled so much, we came together already steady in our individual being. Our connectedness allowed synergy and complementarity. We are better for being together. Stronger, more resilient, a true partnership. As time passes, the surface contours change. But the connected bond grows, like two trees with roots entwined.
More than I ever imagined love and partnership could possibly be.
I am grateful. Thank you, my love. And thank you to whatever symphonies of Universe brought us together.
