See the real threat
Historian Heather Cox Richardson uses the following metaphor.
Imagine we have ten people, and for the most part, these ten people want a good life — not excessive — a home, some extra income to cover holidays, health care, quality education.
Then, two of the ten people decide they want to be in power.
The strategy to gain and maintain power is simple. It is an age-old formula, because it works so well. Convince six of the ten that the bottom two are coming to take away their options. And keep them convinced, even against evidence. To keep conquered keep divided.
Or, said another way, the person earning 10,000 per hour needs to convince the people earning 25 an hour that the people earning 7 an hour are the problem.
Here we have our world.
The focus is on the people at the bottom. The migrants. Refugees. People of colour. Those without access to education. LBGTQ. Trans.
While the two at the top, those earning 10,000 plus an hour, suck the profits up, change the rules to suit themselves, and laugh as they do it. They get away with everything, because they can. We are too busy being terrified of those at the bottom of the ladder trying to usurp our position on the second or third rung.
We must stop playing this constructed game and see the real threat true.
