Power versus force

In physics, a force is any influence that, when unopposed, will change the motion of an object. A force can cause an object with mass to change its velocity (which includes moving from a state of rest — to accelerate.)

Force involves physical or psychological strength to get people to act against their wishes. It has strength, coercion, imposition and compulsion as features — its Pattern Integrity. Force often involves a collision.

Power is the ability to move something to action, to generate change. There is a flow to power without the collision.

Power can manifest in leadership, persuasion, or intellectual influence, where the influence is more about guiding than compelling. Force often involves overcoming resistance through physical means or by imposing will, usually in a more direct and less voluntary manner for those on the receiving end.

Dominating power often uses force, threat, fear and shame to get people to act.

Healthy power is invitational, inspirational, directional and undistorted. There is no need for force to be applied. The invitational element is key. A field is created that attracts people interested in that expression of power. In Syntropic World we call this the Vector of Power.

In summary, healthy power is attractive and invitational, without the need for force.

Dominating power requires force.
