Who is held to account?

We are at that point in the cycle of breakdown where only those without means get to pay the piper.

The political and ruling class get away with anything they want. Anything. In plain sight. Again and again. Corruption. Inciting violence. Lies that even a six-year-old child knows to be untrue,

Where is integrity? Justice? When it is not found at the highest level, applied to all in power, people lose all respect for every institution that is supposed to be there for the people and for justice.

We do not trust the police. The courts. The politicians. Even the institutions set up as integrity councils.

Those from the wealthier countries expect this type of blatant corruption in those countries we have raped and pillaged through colonisation for centuries. But it is alive, well and thriving at home.

To even consider that a criminal rapist liar might be elected to one of the most powerful offices in the world is beyond comprehension.

But there we have it. Even those of lesser evil profit personally and politically through secrets, obfuscation, and being puppets on the strings of money power by lobby groups that care not a wit about humanity — only their agenda. An integrous, transparent politician is almost non-existent in 2024.

We put people protesting the real threats — climate change, violence against women and genocide — in jail while the ruling class continue their greedy exploitation and wealth accumulation off the back of no integrity at all.

History shows that this type of asymmetry of accountability doesn’t last.

Revolution is coming.

How did we get here? History speaks to that as well. One little atrocity at a time. That first lie. The first pass on allowing corruption. That first acceptance of one person’s superiority over another for class, financial or other circumstantial reasons.

The first lie, deception or act of superiority we allow to live in us and those around us.

Integrity is something we bring to life in every moment, every choice, every response.

Holding ourselves and others to account — taking responsibility — these actions are so rare I almost weep with relief when I encounter them in others.
