Making powerful requests

Critical ingredients

Be crystal clear about what you want. Be very specific — how many, by when, with whom, under what conditions. An ephemeral request will make it very hard for the giver to grant your request. If you can’t name it with authority how do you expect the gifter to be able to name it?

Know in your bones why this request is being made. Zero ambiguity allowed. Be very clear and aligned to the purpose of your request. “This request will enable THIS to happen.” Outland Denim — our purpose is to end slavery. Here is how we are doing that. Our request today is specifically ‘x’ to meet ‘this’ stage of that journey.

Know the idea you are animating towards the purpose. If we do this, we get our purpose, and to do this we need this request met. Outland Denim — to make the most sustainable denim in the world that dignifies every person in the entire supply chain, giving them training, education, a living wage, community, access, safety.

Know that your request is the next step, the first step. Not the second. The FIRST step. To ask for step 2, or step 10 is to dilute the power of the request. I want to eat the cake, but all I have is flour and sugar. I need a bowl, an oven, and an egg.

When we align the Source Idea, its unique Pattern Integrity, and the purpose towards which we are moving, we create the Vector of Power. The arrow of movement and energy that becomes its own transmission, and in the transmission cuts through the noise of the crowded field.

When the purpose towards which we are moving is greater than ourselves, greater than our fear, greater than our doubting self, we will ask for anything that fits these criteria. And we will not care a fig about what people think of us, or our request.

If these ingredients are there, the size of the request, small or large, is irrelevant. The person to whom you are making the request is also of lesser significance, because in the request itself is the transmission that crosses the Universe.

If you are unclear about the Source Idea and its Pattern Integrity, or the Purpose, then the first step, the place where you need to invest your energy, is in gaining clarity. A clear request on this first step might be…”I am seeking 5 people to sit with me for 2 hours and ask me every question, challenge my every thought so I can become either crystal clear of much clearer about these elements. These 5 people are fearless, care about me and my work, and will hold me to my best. These five people are….(if you know who they are.)

Powerful requests are themselves transmissions. The answer is always yes, it just might not happen on your time line, and from where you expect it.
