Incremental versus transformational change

Change is the constant.

Incrementally my body is undergoing change as I age. No one gets off that journey. I can invest in a healthy lifestyle, movement, strength training, vital food and an open heart and mind to prevent much of the ageing from happening, yet gravity and age do have their way with us all.

Transformative change is literally a transformation. The change is not the same as what was before. Like death, and birth.

In business — where we are deploying systems and structures that have been in use for hundreds of years — our legal codes — how we account for value — what we measure — change has not occurred. We might think we are creating better technologies, but the framework that holds them is the same.

Incremental change is things like Bcorps and Benefit Corporations. Tinkering with the same structure and legal code, hoping for a transformed result.

Transformative change means going back to a blank sheet of paper. Designing everything from new.
