I was wrong
Three words.
Each of us needs to practice speaking these three words.
I was wrong.
Saying sorry is not the same as saying I was wrong.
I was wrong. I made a mistake. I got it wrong.
To own that we made a mistake is the hero’s act of our modern day.
Culture has forgotten how to accept a genuine admittance of error, to invite forgiveness. We prefer to project bile onto the mistake doer.
In our era of uncertainty, of such perfectly crafted propaganda, each of us will find that there will come a day that one of our swallowed beliefs and stands will be shown clearly to be wrong.
The capacity to own it might be part of our collective healing.
