I made a mistake. I apologise.

Simple words. Hard to speak.

The problem with a world where lies are the currency of power is that to admit a mistake is distrusted, even if it is sincere. Not only distrusted, but ridiculed.

That is the order of cynicism we have reached.

C.S. Lewis wrote, “If you are on the wrong road progress means doing a U-turn and walking back to the right road and in that case the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive man.”

When we have invested significantly in the wrong road, turning back becomes so much harder. Sunk costs weigh heavily.

To own our mistakes, to admit wrong, is the measure of maturity.

To grant the perpetrator the grace of forgiveness is an act of humanity.
