How to build a home — or a business — or an economy

Imagine you are building a home, a place to find sanctuary, to gather family, to feel safe.

A small retreat from everything out there that we do need to retreat from.

You might take the time to get the architecture of space right. Here is where we cook. Here is where we clean. Here is where we sleep. Here is where we gather.

Different rooms and spaces for different things, each with its own boundary.

When you welcome a guest to your home, do you allow them to come in with dirty feet and trash the place? Do you let them speak disrespectfully to people in your home?

Or do you have clear boundaries? In our home, this is how we behave towards each other. If you would like to cross the threshold, then you are welcome, as long as you agree to honour the boundaries of our home.

Are you willing to follow through on your boundaries? To keep them maintained, no matter who the guest is?

Or do you let the boundaries become porous if it is a family member or someone you give greater authority to?

Building a business is like building a home. It should be safe, respectful and enjoyable for all participants.

Building an economy — which means care of the home — requires the same. Safe, respectful — for ALL participants.

This is not so hard is it, when we consider it like this?
