Head in the sand
Sometimes we want to deny the possibility of what we know is real.
We cling to the status quo. It is into this status quo that we have invested everything.
Our education. Our status. Our reputation. Our relationships. Our tribe.
Easier to stay with the current, even knowing it is wrong, than to admit everything has changed and our life-fought for opinion is no longer valid.
The ability to change, to have an open mind, to challenge every element of our own belief system, to question our own process, is a rare and much needed attribute in a world of polarised supremely righteous opinions.
To surround ourselves with people who encourage us to think to the edge and further, to understand multi-contextual perspectives, to question our own rigidity, is an act of profound leadership.
To be sure that no community, or community member does not have the right and space to question the status quo, is to have a culture that grows with change.
To stick our head in the sand is to be simultaneously lazy, arrogant, righteous and ignorant.
We become the stuck place.
