Hard binary

Hard binary has no place for nuance or context. It is either or.

Those who live by the code of hard binary live at one extreme or the other.

Good or evil.

Back or white.

Our technological world works on a hard binary. Zeroes and ones.

But where is consciousness?

With all our seeming intellectual might, humans still have no idea where to find consciousness or how far it goes down. Is an atom conscious? Am amoeba?

What makes something conscious?

We have no answer to these questions. Only ideas.

Where does an idea arrive from? Or a thought?

And what is the sense you have activated when you walk into a room where two people sit quietly, and you sense that prior to your arrival, there was a disagreement between these two people?

Hard binary does not allow for the weightless, invisible, immeasurable world to exist.

Where is culture? Can you point to it? You know it when you move from city to city, company to company and nation to nation. But what is culture, if not an immeasurable and ever-changing experience based on multitudes of inputs and outputs?

And what about love? Is it measurable? Does it only arrive in one way? Or does love have one million faces?

Do you love your child with the same texture of love you feel for your sports team, or best friend?

Hard binary is the edge. When we push the edge too far, we will get either collapse or explosion. This is physics.

The edges allow for infinite expressions in between. The transcontextual spaces.

Gorgeous, glorious life is found in the spaces between. As is love. And consciousness.

AI cannot touch consciousness. It can only touch the information it has access to.
