Growth is never the problem

It is what is growing and why we see some growth as more important.

A business and human need to grow to stay alive. Yet to focus only on the dimension of growth as profitability in a business is to delegate the business to the rapacious greed that underpins capitalism.

We know we humans reach a physical dimension of growth that ends. We also know that to continue to grow our weight is unhealthy. As we age the moment we stop growing our knowledge and skills is the moment we move towards entropy.

We hold a warped belief that a business should grow endlessly in the dimension of profit accumulation.

We neglect to consider the growth of the interiors, the people in the business, supporting their own development as humans and their flourishing as citizens. If the CEO claims privilege, access and luxury while the workers struggle to pay rent, this is not a healthy business.

We neglect to focus on the growth in the communities we operate. Their access to the basics — education, health care, child and elder care. Is this not also a business’s purpose? Thriving communities enable thriving customers unless you are in the weapons and ‘health’ industries.

Finally, we neglect to consider that our business is a part of the whole. If business collectively is not moving humanity towards a higher order, a better state of whole being and living, towards Syntropy, then that business is part of the problem.
