Giving up, letting go, composting

Looking at the grass over there…means not seeing the abundance at our feet, even when the pantry is bare. The grass is always greener somewhere. Like chasing the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, it is a fools game that has only dissatisfaction as the outcome.

Wishing for, hoping for better, different. This act removes us from the present. And the present is where life is. For years I used to spend my time planning some better future, be that through imagining, visioning, longing…To find happiness right here, right now, no matter what…that is the real work.

Hoping people will change. Instead grant them your gift of acceptance as they are. And if they are toxic to your vitality, remove yourself. Then turn to the only place you have the power to change. Yourself. Show up differently and the world will dance with you differently.

Telling little lies to ourselves about what we will or will not do in the future. This is our own self deception, and it is loaded with the taste of failure. Choose instead one act, size irrelevant, that you know in your bones you can and will do, no matter what. And if this is not possible, tell yourself that it is indeed a wish but you are not yet ready to back it with commitment.

Self sabotage. Over thinking, making assumptions without clarifying, living in a story that you have no idea is true or not…instead ask, confirm, seek to understand and then adjust your own behaviour.

But most of all, be here, now. Not somewhere else. Not lost in the future. Not lost in lack. Not lost in a story that is not real.

Here. In the smelly, ugly, confusing, scary, hard, beautiful, wonderful, glorious now.

Live this day. Give your whole self to this day. Repeat tomorrow.
