From one polar extreme to the other

Watch a pendulum swing. From the extreme poles, it arrives at a middle ground.
Equilibrium is never stillness. Equilibrium is a dynamic dance around the centre.
But first, it swings from one hard pole to the opposite hard pole.
Centuries of women being considered lesser than men, people of colour being considered inferior to anyone with pale skin, any form of disability being ignored, or the powerful of money and influence being able to write the rules and dictate terms of increased wealth accumulation often means that when the pendulum swings to the opposite pole, those who have held the reigns are disadvantaged.
This experience threatens embedded status. Many of those who have been so conditioned to their privilege fight hard against this change.
People who have been relentlessly disadvantaged for generations and centuries fight equally as hard.
And so the battle perpetuates from one polar extreme to the other.
Awareness of the subtext of the rules of the game is one crucial piece. We must know the illusions we have been hostage to. They have become an unquestioned, invisible field.
Yet wisdom would say rather than insisting on the extremes, we might find a middle ground.
One where everyone is considered invaluable, no matter their pigment, class or ability.
I listen to people who have been marginalised for so long argue for their equal place at the table. I agree with their, and my rights, to equal place at the table.
Yet if our argument results in the disadvantage of another, even one who held the advantage previously, are we not just continuing to play the same win-lose game?
