Fear is my teacher

Collapsing context strips nuance.

Fear is not bad. It is there to put a break on extreme risk with potentially fatal consequences.

Propagating fear to diminish human optionality is to use fear as a weapon.

A class of people know how to use the weapon of fear with extraordinary skill.

And then there is our choice to live in fear, or to overcome it.

I am learning to surf. (I believe I will be learning to surf for as long as I am surfing.) Climbing over the mountain of my fear is what is limiting me from going to the next level.

In surfing, fear is my teacher as well as my brake.

I contemplate those people in the world who fear bombs falling on their roofs every night. Days, months, years of this kind of fear. It is not a way to live. At some point, we must overcome fear even when the risks are high.

Good fear bad fear. Like most things, it depends on the context.
