Cultural Sleepwalking

Happens to us all. We get seduced by the way things are, wrapped in the warm, well-designed blanket of knowing-only-so-much.

Until an inciting incident provides an intersection to our future choices.

Morality police in Iran and the death of a 22year old woman in custody for not wearing her Hijab as dictated by a group of old men.

The call to arms of citizens in Russia, against their will.

The horrid 8 minutes shown to the world of a black man pleading for his life — in a long long long line of black and brown people pleading for their right to the same life as their light-skinned brothers and sisters.

We are the live lobster placed in a pot of cold water, heated ever so slowly until we sleep before we boil to death.

Cultural sleepwalking as if everything is wonderful and we can carry on.

Until it becomes impossible.

Current pop culture is jam-packed full of constant vigilance against the rise of evil. We might pay heed.

Waking from our trance is critical if we want a world with a future.

And then we must take to the streets in protest.

We the people. The power has always been in our hands.
