A society that is flourishing is a society that takes care of its vulnerable people
Yesterday for the first time in two years of a global pandemic, I was close to crying.
How did we get so selfish? How do we find it so easy to throw the vulnerable into a forgotten trash pile so we can have our life? People with disabilities, with chronic illness, children, the elderly, our indigenous, those of lesser means. Discarded. Just like that. So business can get on with business.
How do we continue to yell for our freedom when so many seeking only freedom from oppression and climate destruction have been kept incarcerated for 8 or more years?
How can we be so cruel? So heartless?
Our leadership, certainly in Australia, shows only doctored-for-public-spin compassion. The truth, they do not give a RATS about anything but their own success and power.
My partner, who manages a pub, comes home fatigued from trying to protect his staff and the patrons, mostly old people, from those who care less and only want their freedom to do whatever the hell they like.
How did we agree to put profit over public health? Anyone who has been sick, really sick, knows that they would pay almost anything to not be sick. Those who can afford to pay discover what health means when no amount of money buys health. Until those with wealth experience this entitlement is the illusion.
A society that is flourishing is a society that takes care of its vulnerable people and animals.
We are not a flourishing society.
