Worry wisely

The beauty of perspective is that what was once important pales into insignificance in the light of a greater danger or priority. When we are caught in the trap of worrying about little things like — what they will think of me, or I look fat in this, or my…

In love with loving

Is it possible to witness ourselves loving? To love love? To be held in the warmth of feeling towards life, another, a sweet moment? To simply hold the moment for its infinitely precious gift. To feel the blood move in my veins as I hear the birds exploring their morning. To observe my beloved lost in his own thoughts. Tomorrow is a secret of gifts and terrors. Today I have this delicious moment to be in love with loving.

Perfectly imperfect happy life

Obsessed with future perfection is not a way to live. Yet finding perfection in the moment is one of the most amazing ways to live. This morning was perfect. It was unplanned. Flowing. Effortless. The sunrise was perfect and different to every other sunrise. The waves were perfect, yet each wave was different, bringing their own set of challenges. My surfing was imperfect yet perfect for where I am in my surfing journey. The entire morning was perfect. When we hold perfection as the expectation, we are very likely to be disappointed. When we hold enjoying or loving the moment, even the bumpy bits, as our goal, we live a perfectly imperfect happy life.

Relationships that matter

Relationships that matter need attention. If we are about to begin a project, form a partnership, or become a part of a team, unless we place the quality of the relationships that are about to form as a priority, the relationships are likely to disintegrate. This is especially important if…

What matters most

Knowing what matters most is so clarifying. For example, at work, delivering service to the customer. To deliver your best service, and to be a great team or family member, we need to be healthy and well-slept. When a beloved is ill, attending to them with our singular focus. Taking time to…

What was I prepared to do?

The definitive seeds of Syntropic World were cast across the soil of my being over the last forty years. Some seeds took a very long time to sprout, while others, like a commitment to integrity, took firm hold very early on, challenging me in ways I could not predict. …

Nature knows that diversity is our survival

I can hold the space for differences of opinion, diverse worldviews, and for radical ideas. Yet if the difference harms, demeans, disrespects or maligns others, including our creatures, I cannot stand witness to the difference. Our desire to simplify everything, to have our sense-making live in a binary, black-and-white world, is understandable. Yet…

The word love on its own is not enough

Loaded words like love hold a myriad of meanings, which unless understood in context, can be used as a weapon. For example, in the relationship between teenage boys, a deep sense of friendship without any sexual desire is easily maligned for something it is not. In ancient Greece, love was described in…

Calling out little atrocities

Corruption does not happen in one big burst. Nor does evil. Self-deception occurs in a steady slow sequence, one lie to begin, begetting the next. Weak boundaries enable weak boundaries. Respect disappears. Hate and cruelty are born with little atrocities, small acts of violence and discrimination that are stepped over by the crowd…

Emotions Tangled

From the stunning beauty of this morning. (The word stun — to daze or render unconscious, astonish. What a perfect word.) To the uncertainties life throws from left field. My emotions tangled. Present time beauty, loving the moment, holding the tension of a future with clearly defined hurdles. Like my hair after…
